INTRODUCTION The LWGY series liquid turbine flowmeter is a primary type of velocity flowmeter. When the measured fluid passes through the turbine flowmeter sensor, the impeller is driven to rotate by the fluid force, and its rotational speed is directly proportional to the average flow velocity in the pipeline. Meanwhile, the blades periodically cut the magnetic lines of force generated by the electromagnet, changing the magnetic flux of the coil. In accordance with the principle of electromagnetic induction, a pulsating potential signal, namely an electrical pulse signal, is induced in the coil, and the frequency of this electrical pulsating signal is proportional to the flow rate of the measured fluid. WORKING PRINCIPLE The fluid flows through the sensor housing. Since the impeller blades form a certain angle with the flow direction, the fluid impulse exerts a rotating torque on the blades. Overcoming the friction torque and fluid resistance, the blades rotate and maintain a stable rotational speed when the torques are balanced. Under specific conditions, the rotational speed is proportional to the flow velocity. As the blades are magnetically conductive and situated in the magnetic field of the signal detector (consisting of magnet steel and a coil), the rotating blades cut the magnetic lines of force, periodically changing the magnetic flux of the coil and thus inducing an electrical pulse signal at both ends of the coil. This signal is amplified and shaped by an amplifier to form a continuous rectangular pulse wave with a certain amplitude, which can be transmitted remotely to a display instrument for showing the instantaneous and cumulative flow rates of the fluid. Within a specific flow range, the pulse frequency is proportional to the instantaneous flow rate of the fluid passing through the sensor, with the flow equation as follows: Where: – Pulse frequency [Hz]; – Meter factor of the sensor [1/m], provided in the calibration sheet. If the unit is [1/L], the equation is ; – Instantaneous flow rate of the fluid (under operating conditions) [m³/h];3600 – Conversion factor. The meter factor of each sensor is filled in the verification certificate by the manufacturer.
